HPSC does not publish official prelims cutoffs. Only Paper 1 (GS), scored out of 100, decides merit, and CSAT just needs 33% to qualify.

Haryana GK is the single biggest scoring opportunity - it carries 25-30% weightage in Prelims. Topics include Haryana history, geography, culture, folk traditions, government schemes, and current state affairs.

Candidates who skip Haryana GK lose 40-50 easy marks.

Mains has six descriptive papers of 100 marks each, with no optional subject after the 2026 revision. The interview carries 75 marks, so final merit is out of 675.

All six papers count, the four GS papers plus English and Hindi with essays, so depth across every paper matters.

Prelims: 2 papers - Paper 1 (General Studies - 100 MCQs, 100 marks, 2 hours) and Paper 2 (CSAT - 100 MCQs, 100 marks, 2 hours). CSAT is qualifying only (33% minimum) - only Paper 1 counts for merit.

Paper 1 covers Indian history, geography, polity, economy, science, environment, current affairs, and Haryana-specific GK (25-30% weightage).

Mains: 6 descriptive papers of 100 marks each, total 600. English with Essay, Hindi with Essay, and General Studies 1 to 4 including Ethics, with no optional subject.

HPSC Mains has no optional subject. All six papers count toward merit, unlike the old format where the language papers were only qualifying.

The advantage: no months lost on a single optional. The challenge: you need depth across all six papers, including Ethics, so nothing can be weak.

HPSC HCS 2026 mains: what's ahead

With prelims done, the HPSC HCS 2026 mains runs from 27 to 29 June 2026.

All six mains papers carry 100 marks each and count toward the 600 merit marks. Broad revision across the four GS papers and the two language-essay papers matters most now.

The 2026 revision removed the optional subject and made the languages count, so no paper can be ignored.
