📋3 Ways to Get a PAN Card

Method 1 — Instant e-PAN (FREE, 10 minutes): If you have an Aadhaar with a linked mobile number and have never had a PAN before, you can get an instant e-PAN at incometax.gov.in → 'Instant e-PAN'. It's completely free and generates your PAN number in 10 minutes via Aadhaar e-KYC. You get a downloadable e-PAN (PDF). No physical card is mailed.

Method 2 — Online Application via NSDL (₹107, 7-15 days): Apply at onlineservices.nsdl.com → 'PAN - New/Change Request'. This is the standard process for new PAN, corrections, or reprint. You get both e-PAN (email) and physical PAN card (by post). Fee: ₹107 for Indian address, ₹1,017 for foreign address.

Method 3 — Online via UTIITSL (₹107, 7-15 days): Alternative portal at pan.utiitsl.com. Same process and fee as NSDL. Choose whichever portal is available — both are authorized by the Income Tax Department.

Important: Every person should have only ONE PAN. Having multiple PANs is illegal and attracts a ₹10,000 penalty. If you already have a PAN and need corrections or reprint, use the 'Changes/Correction' option, not 'New PAN'.

How to Get Instant e-PAN (Free, 10 Minutes)

1
Go to incometax.gov.in → Instant e-PAN
Visit the Income Tax e-Filing portal. Click 'Instant e-PAN' under Quick Links. You don't need to register or login.
2
Enter Aadhaar number
Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number. Confirm that you don't have an existing PAN. Accept the terms.
3
Verify with Aadhaar OTP
OTP is sent to your Aadhaar-registered mobile. Enter the OTP. Your identity is verified through Aadhaar e-KYC — no document upload needed.
4
PAN is generated and e-PAN is available
Your PAN number is allotted instantly. Download the e-PAN (PDF) from the same page. This e-PAN is legally valid for all purposes — tax filing, bank KYC, investments. No physical card is sent.

📝How to Apply for Physical PAN Card (NSDL)

1
Visit onlineservices.nsdl.com
Go to NSDL's PAN portal. Click 'PAN - New/Change Request (Form 49A for Indian citizens)'. Select 'New PAN - Indian Citizen' for new application or 'Changes/Correction' for existing PAN updates.
2
Fill Form 49A online
Enter personal details: full name (as on Aadhaar), date of birth, father's name, address, email, and mobile. Choose source of income and AO code (the form auto-suggests this based on your address).
3
Upload documents
Identity proof: Aadhaar, Voter ID, or Passport. Address proof: Aadhaar, utility bill, or bank statement. Date of birth proof: Aadhaar, birth certificate, or 10th marksheet. Upload as JPEG (max 1MB each). If using Aadhaar for all three, one upload suffices.
4
Pay ₹107 and submit
Pay via debit card, credit card, net banking, or UPI. You'll receive an acknowledgment number — save this for tracking.
5
Receive PAN card
e-PAN is emailed within 2-3 days. Physical PAN card is delivered by post within 7-15 working days. Track status at tin.tin.nsdl.com/pantan/StatusTrack.html using your acknowledgment number.
