Category-wise vacancies: The 1,607 posts are divided across four categories — Graduate Apprentice (B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc degree holders), Diploma Apprentice (diploma in engineering), Trade Apprentice (ITI passed), and Paramedical Apprentice Trainees (nursing, lab technician etc.). For discipline-wise breakup (Electrical, Mechanical, Mining, Civil, Computer Science, Electronics, Commercial, and more), refer to the official notification PDF on nclcil.in.

Critical eligibility condition — UP/MP institution only: Only candidates who completed their qualifying degree, diploma, or ITI from an institution located in Uttar Pradesh or Madhya Pradesh are eligible. Candidates who studied in other states — even if they are domicile of UP/MP — are NOT eligible. This is the single most important eligibility filter.

How to apply — two portals: Graduate and Diploma candidates must first register on the NATS portal (nats.education.gov.in), get their Enrollment ID, then fill the NCL application. ITI Trade candidates register on the NAPS portal (apprenticeshipindia.gov.in) for their Enrollment ID. After getting the Enrollment ID, fill the NCL application with academic details, marks percentage, category, and upload photo and signature. Only one application per candidate — multiple applications lead to disqualification. No offline/paper applications accepted.

No written exam — marks matter most: There is no written test or interview for NCL Apprentice 2026. The merit list is prepared strictly in descending order of marks scored in the qualifying examination. Candidates with higher percentage have a direct advantage. The provisional merit list releases June 20. Selected candidates are then called for document verification and medical test as per Mines Rules, 1955.
