📖What is YSR Aarogyasri (Andhra Pradesh) — ₹5 Lakh Free Health Insurance?

YSR Aarogyasri is Andhra Pradesh's flagship health insurance scheme providing free cashless hospitalization up to ₹5 lakh per family per year. Launched in 2007 by then CM Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, it covers over 1.42 crore families across the state. The scheme is managed by the Dr. YSR Aarogyasri Health Care Trust under the Department of Health, Medical & Family Welfare.

The scheme covers 2,434 procedures and surgeries across 30 categories — cardiac surgery, cancer treatment, orthopedic procedures, neurological care, renal dialysis, organ transplants, burn care, and more. Treatment is cashless at empanelled government and private hospitals. You walk in with your ration card and Aadhaar, and the hospital handles everything with the trust directly.

If you're eligible for both Aarogyasri and the Central Government's Ayushman Bharat (PMJAY), you get dual coverage — up to ₹10 lakh total per year (₹5 lakh from each). Hospitals can use whichever scheme covers the specific procedure, giving AP families significantly more protection than most other states.

All families with annual income below ₹5 lakh from all sources are eligible. White ration card holders are automatically enrolled — no separate registration needed. Emergency treatment does not require pre-authorization; hospitals treat first and seek approval later. For planned surgeries, pre-authorization is needed and typically takes 1-3 days.

🏥How to Get Treatment Under Aarogyasri — Step by Step

1
Verify hospital is empanelled
Before visiting, confirm the hospital accepts Aarogyasri. Check the list on ysraarogyasri.ap.gov.in or call 104. Government hospitals are automatically empanelled; private hospitals must be verified.
2
Go to the Aarogyasri counter at the hospital
Every empanelled hospital has a dedicated Aarogyasri registration counter. Bring your white ration card and Aadhaar card. The staff will verify your eligibility in the system (takes 15-30 minutes).
3
Doctor examines and recommends treatment
The hospital doctor examines you and determines if your condition requires hospitalization under a covered procedure. If yes, the hospital initiates the treatment process.
4
Pre-authorization for planned surgery
For non-emergency procedures, the hospital submits a pre-authorization request to the Aarogyasri Trust. Approval typically takes 1-3 days. Emergency cases skip this — treatment starts immediately, authorization happens later.
5
Receive cashless treatment
You're admitted and treated without paying anything out of pocket. All costs up to ₹5 lakh are billed directly to the Aarogyasri Trust by the hospital.
6
Discharge — no bills
After treatment, you're discharged without paying any hospital fees. The hospital settles everything with the Trust. If the hospital asks you to pay, complain immediately to 104.

⚠️What is NOT Covered Under Aarogyasri

OPD and consultations

Only inpatient hospitalization is covered. Doctor consultations, outpatient visits, and routine check-ups are not included.

Cosmetic procedures

Aesthetic and cosmetic surgeries are excluded. Exception: reconstructive surgery after burns or accidents is covered.

Non-empanelled hospitals

Treatment at hospitals not on the Aarogyasri network is NOT covered. Always verify empanelment before admission.

Fertility treatments

IVF, IUI, surrogacy, and other fertility procedures are excluded.

Dental and orthodontic work

Routine dental procedures, braces, and dental implants are not covered.

Motor accident cases

If your condition is covered under motor vehicle insurance (third-party or own damage), that insurance is responsible — not Aarogyasri.

Outside medicines

Medicines purchased from pharmacies outside the hospital during treatment may not be reimbursed unless specifically prescribed and approved.

🔍How to Check if a Hospital is Empanelled

The safest way: Visit ysraarogyasri.ap.gov.in and use the 'Hospital Search' feature. Enter your district and city to see all empanelled hospitals in your area.

Call the 104 helpline — the staff can verify any hospital's empanelment status over the phone. Available 24/7.

Look for visible signs at the hospital: most empanelled hospitals display the Aarogyasri empanelment certificate and have a dedicated Aarogyasri counter near the entrance.

Government hospitals in AP are automatically empanelled. For private hospitals, ALWAYS verify before admission — not all private hospitals participate, and treatment at non-empanelled hospitals will not be covered.

₹5 lakh cover per family per year

💡₹5 lakh cover per family per year

YSR Aarogyasri covers 2,446 medical procedures including surgeries, therapies, and diagnostics. The ₹5 lakh limit is per family per year. For critical illnesses like cancer, kidney transplant, and cardiac surgery, an additional ₹5 lakh (total ₹10 lakh) is available under the enhanced package.

Works with Ayushman Bharat

💡Works with Ayushman Bharat

YSR Aarogyasri is integrated with PM-JAY (Ayushman Bharat) in Andhra Pradesh. If you have both cards, the hospital uses whichever scheme covers your specific treatment. The AP government tops up the Ayushman ₹5 lakh with additional state funds for procedures not covered under PM-JAY.

📝How to Apply

1
Check if you're already enrolled
White ration card holders are automatically eligible. Visit ysraarogyasri.ap.gov.in or call 104 with your ration card number to check your status.
2
If not enrolled — visit nearest government hospital or Aarogyasri center
Bring your ration card (white or pink), Aadhaar card, and income proof. The Aarogyasri counter staff will verify your eligibility in the system.
3
Submit documents for registration
If eligible, provide your ration card, Aadhaar, and a passport photo. Registration is typically processed on the spot at government hospitals.
4
Receive Aarogyasri Health Card
You'll get an Aarogyasri card or digital confirmation. Keep this safe — you'll need it every time you seek treatment at an empanelled hospital.
5
Use at any empanelled hospital across AP
Present your Aarogyasri card and Aadhaar at any empanelled hospital in AP. The hospital handles the rest — verification, pre-authorization, and billing directly with the Trust.
⚠️Always verify hospital empanelment before planned treatment. Non-empanelled hospitals cannot bill the Aarogyasri Trust, and you'll have to pay out of pocket. Check at ysraarogyasri.ap.gov.in or call 104. For emergencies, go to the nearest government hospital — all government hospitals in AP are empanelled.
