Namo Lakshmi Yojana 2026: Gujarat Girls ₹50,000
Two Gujarat schemes for girls' education: Namo Lakshmi (₹50,000 for Class 9-12) and Namo Saraswati (₹25,000 extra for science stream Class 11-12).
📖What is Namo Lakshmi Yojana 2026: Gujarat Girls ₹50,000?
Namo Lakshmi Yojana is Gujarat's financial support scheme for girls in secondary school (Class 9 to 12). The total benefit is ₹50,000 paid across 4 years to keep girls in school.
Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana is a separate add-on for girls who choose the science stream in Class 11-12. They get an additional ₹25,000 on top of Namo Lakshmi.
Both schemes were announced in the Gujarat Budget 2024 by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. They target the secondary school dropout crisis among girls.
Namo Lakshmi is for ALL girls regardless of stream. Namo Saraswati is the STEM bonus for science-stream girls only.
A science girl gets both.

💰Namo Lakshmi Yojana: Amount by Class
Namo Lakshmi pays ₹10,000 per year in Class 9 and Class 10. This is meant to keep girls from dropping out after middle school, which is when dropout rates peak in Gujarat.
In Class 11 and Class 12, the amount increases to ₹15,000 per year. The total across 4 years is ₹50,000 (10K + 10K + 15K + 15K).
📊Why Gujarat Launched These Two Schemes
Gujarat's girl dropout rate in secondary school was among the highest in western India. Many families pulled daughters out after Class 8 for early marriage or to help at home.
Namo Lakshmi directly addresses this by making it financially worthwhile to keep a daughter in school. ₹10,000 per year in Class 9-10 covers books, uniform, and transport for most families.
The higher amount in Class 11-12 (₹15,000/year) targets the second dropout peak. Girls who complete Class 10 often drop out before Class 11 because higher secondary costs more.
Namo Saraswati adds a science incentive because girls are underrepresented in STEM fields. Fewer than 30% of science students in Gujarat government schools are girls.
Namo Lakshmi vs Namo Saraswati: Amount Comparison
| Class | Namo Lakshmi (all girls) | Namo Saraswati (science only) | Total if science |
|---|---|---|---|
| Class 9 | ₹10,000 | Not applicable | ₹10,000 |
| Class 10 | ₹10,000 | Not applicable | ₹10,000 |
| Class 11 | ₹15,000 | ₹12,500 | ₹27,500 |
| Class 12 | ₹15,000 | ₹12,500 | ₹27,500 |
| Total | ₹50,000 | ₹25,000 | ₹75,000 |
If a girl takes science in Class 11-12, she gets both Namo Lakshmi AND Namo Saraswati. The combined benefit is ₹75,000 over 4 years.
This is the highest girl-education benefit in Gujarat.
🔬Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana: Science Stream Incentive
Namo Saraswati is specifically for girls who choose Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Biology in Class 11-12. The government wants more girls in STEM fields.
The additional ₹25,000 is paid as ₹12,500 in Class 11 and ₹12,500 in Class 12. This is on top of the Namo Lakshmi amount, not instead of it.
✅Namo Lakshmi Eligibility: Who Qualifies and Who Does Not
The student must be a girl enrolled in Class 9, 10, 11, or 12 in a Gujarat government school or grant-in-aid school. Private unaided school students are generally not covered.
Family annual income must be below ₹6 lakh. The income certificate must be current and issued by the Mamlatdar or authorized authority.
The girl must have passed the previous class. If she failed or was detained, she does not receive the benefit for that year until she passes.
Transfer students who moved from one Gujarat school to another mid-year are eligible, but the new school must update the enrollment records with the District Education Officer.
Namo Lakshmi vs Namo Saraswati: Which One?
🏦How the Money Reaches You
The amount is transferred directly to the student's (or parent's) bank account through DBT. No middleman, no cash distribution.
Your bank account must be linked to Aadhaar. If the payment fails, the most common reason is Aadhaar-bank linking not done.
Visit your bank branch to fix this.
Quick Eligibility Check
- Girl studying in Class 9-12 in Gujarat
- Government or grant-in-aid school
- Family income below ₹6 lakh/year
- Bank account linked to Aadhaar
- Boys
- Private unaided school students
- Family income above ₹6 lakh
- Students who dropped out mid-year
🔬Namo Saraswati: Which Subjects Qualify as Science Stream?
To qualify for Namo Saraswati, the girl must be studying Physics, Chemistry, and either Mathematics or Biology in Class 11-12. All three core science subjects are required.
Students in the Bio-Maths group (all four: Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology) also qualify. The scheme does not cover commerce or arts stream students, even if they study one science subject.
Unlike many schemes where you fill forms online, Namo Lakshmi enrollment is mostly handled by the school. Your school submits the list of eligible students to the district office.
Ask your school if your name is included.
⚠️Common Issues with Namo Lakshmi Payment
If you are eligible but did not receive the payment, first check if your school submitted your name. Schools sometimes miss students, especially mid-year transfers.
Second, check if your bank account is active and linked to Aadhaar. Dormant accounts or accounts without Aadhaar linking will not receive DBT payments.
You must be currently enrolled and attending a recognised school. Dropout students cannot claim retroactively. Re-enroll first, then the school can add you to the next cycle.
Documents Required
🔄What Happens If You Switch Streams?
If a girl switches from science to arts or commerce after Class 11, she loses the Namo Saraswati benefit for Class 12. She still gets the Namo Lakshmi amount (₹15,000).
If she switches from arts/commerce to science (rare), she can claim Namo Saraswati for Class 12 if the school updates her stream in the records.
Gujarat is one of the few states that separately incentivises girls choosing science. The combined ₹75,000 for a science-stream girl is among the highest girl-education benefits in India.
🏫School's Role in Namo Lakshmi: What Schools Must Do
Schools are responsible for identifying eligible students, collecting documents, and submitting the consolidated list to the Block Education Officer. The school principal signs off on each student's eligibility.
If your school has not included you, approach the principal with your documents (Aadhaar, income certificate, admission receipt). The school can add students in the supplementary list.
Grant-in-aid schools sometimes delay submissions because the process is new. If your school is unresponsive, contact the Block Education Officer or the District Education Officer directly.
Schools must also verify that the student is attending regularly. If attendance falls below the required threshold (typically 75%), the school may exclude the student from the next year's list.
🔄Renewal: Do You Need to Reapply Every Year?
No individual reapplication is needed. If you passed the previous class and are enrolled in the next class at the same school, the school automatically includes you in the renewal list.
However, you must ensure your documents are up to date. The income certificate must be from the current financial year.
An expired income certificate can delay your renewal.
If you changed schools (transferred to another government or grant-in-aid school), the new school must submit your name. Carry your previous year's scholarship receipt as proof.

👩Namo Lakshmi for SC, ST, OBC, and Minority Girls
Girls from all categories are eligible: General, OBC, SC, ST, SEBC, Minority, and EBC. There is no category-based exclusion as long as the income limit is met.
SC and ST girls who are also receiving Digital Gujarat scholarships can potentially receive both, unless the scholarship notification explicitly says otherwise. Check with your school.
Minority girls (Muslim, Christian, Sikh, etc.) qualify under the same ₹6 lakh income limit. No separate minority certificate is needed for Namo Lakshmi.
The income certificate is sufficient.
The scheme is free and school-administered. No agent, middleman, or online service should charge you money to apply.
Report any such fraud to 079-26566000.
🔍Namo Lakshmi and Digital Gujarat Portal: Checking Your Status
While the school handles the initial submission, you can track your scholarship status on digitalgujarat.gov.in. Login with your registered mobile number and check the 'My Applications' section.
The portal shows your application stage: Submitted by School, Verified by BEO, Approved by DEO, Payment Initiated, or Payment Completed.
If the status has not moved beyond 'Submitted by School' for more than 4 weeks, contact the Block Education Officer.
Keep screenshots of your portal status. If there is a dispute, these serve as proof that you applied on time.
💰Can Namo Lakshmi and Digital Gujarat Scholarship Be Combined?
Namo Lakshmi is a separate scheme from the regular Digital Gujarat Scholarship. Whether both can be claimed simultaneously depends on the specific scholarship and notification.
In general, the government allows one scholarship per student per course. But Namo Lakshmi is classified as an 'incentive' not a 'scholarship', which may allow stacking.
Check the notification carefully or ask the District Education Officer. Some SC/ST students have received both in the 2024-25 cycle.
Schools typically submit the eligible student list within 2 months of the academic year starting (Ju
📅Timeline: When to Expect the Namo Lakshmi Payment
Schools typically submit the eligible student list within 2 months of the academic year starting (July-August). Verification takes 4-6 weeks at the block and district level.
Payment processing starts after district-level approval. DBT transfers usually happen in batches, not individually.
Most students receive their first payment within 3-5 months of enrollment. If you enrolled in June, expect the payment by October-November.
Second and subsequent year students (renewals) often receive payments faster because their documents are already verified.
⚠️What If You Did Not Receive the Payment?
First, confirm with your school that your name was included in the submitted list. If yes, check if the payment was processed on digitalgujarat.gov.in.
If the portal shows 'Approved' but no payment in your bank, visit your bank with the application reference number. The payment may be pending in a holding account if Aadhaar-bank linking is incomplete.
If the status shows 'Rejected', note the rejection reason and fix it. Most rejections are due to expired income certificates, inactive bank accounts, or Aadhaar mismatches.
For unresolved cases, file a complaint at the Block Education Officer's office with copies of all documents and your application reference number.
