Gruha Lakshmi Yojana was launched by the Karnataka Congress government in August 2023 as one of its five 'guarantee' schemes promised during the 2023 election campaign. It provides ₹2,000 per month (₹24,000/year) to the woman head of every eligible household in Karnataka — making it the highest-paying state women's scheme in India.
The scheme defines 'woman head of household' as the eldest woman in the family whose name is on the ration card as head of family OR any adult woman in the family if the ration card is in a male member's name. Effectively, one woman per household receives the benefit. For households with only male members, the benefit is not applicable.
With approximately 1.2 crore women enrolled, Gruha Lakshmi has a massive annual budget of ₹28,800 crore — one of the largest social welfare expenditures by any Indian state. The payment is made directly to the woman's Aadhaar-linked bank account on the 1st of every month.
Eligibility is tied to the ration card: BPL (Antyodaya/Priority) ration card holders are automatically eligible. APL ration card holders below the income threshold also qualify. Families that are income tax payers or where any member is a government employee (except Group D) are excluded.

₹2,000 credited monthly
