📋What is DigiLocker?

DigiLocker is a free digital document vault by the Government of India (under MeitY) that lets you store, access, and share official documents digitally. Instead of carrying physical copies of your Aadhaar, PAN, marksheets, driving license, and vehicle RC, you can access verified digital copies from your phone anytime.

Documents in DigiLocker are legally valid — they are treated as equivalent to original documents under the IT Act. This means you can show your DigiLocker driving license to a traffic cop, submit DigiLocker marksheets for college admission, or use DigiLocker Aadhaar for KYC — all without physical copies.

Over 200 organizations issue documents to DigiLocker: CBSE, ICSE, state boards (marksheets), RTO (driving license, vehicle RC), Income Tax (PAN), UIDAI (Aadhaar), universities (degrees), insurance companies (policies), and more.

📱How to Register — 2 Minutes

1
Download DigiLocker app or visit digilocker.gov.in
Available on Google Play and App Store. Or use the web version at digilocker.gov.in.
2
Sign up with Aadhaar or mobile number
Enter your Aadhaar number → OTP on Aadhaar-linked mobile → set username and password. OR sign up with mobile number → OTP → link Aadhaar later.
3
Your vault is ready
After registration, your DigiLocker vault is created. You get 1 GB of free storage for uploading documents.
4
Pull documents from issuing organizations
Go to 'Issued Documents' → search by organization (CBSE, RTO, Income Tax) → pull your documents. They appear instantly if the issuing organization has digitized your records. Example: Search 'Driving License' → select your state RTO → enter DL number → your digital DL appears.
